This past week, Marty took Braxton to Grandmomma's house for Spring Break. The morning after they arrived, Marty woke up to this:
As you can imagine, Marty was a little freaked out. As any parent would do, he started thinking of the worst possible things that it could be. He went ahead and gave Braxton some Benadryl to see if that would help. After a few hours, the hives seemed to get better, but Marty was still concerned and took him to a doctor there in Tuscaloosa. The only problem was there were no true pediatric centers that would see him, so Marty ended up taking him to a General Practitioner. After seeing him, the doctor claimed that he had a double ear infection and that the hives could have been caused by it. Seems a little crazy that ear infections could cause hives, but you trust a doctor to tell you exactly what it is. After a long day at the doctor's office and picking up the prescription, Marty went back to his mom's house and decided that he would keep a close watch on things and if they hadn't cleared by morning, he would drive back to Smyrna so that our pediatrician could look at him. Morning came and the hives were still there, so Marty drove back home (very quickly, may I add). After seeing our pediatrician, we found out that Braxton did not end up having a double ear infection and that the hives were caused by a virus. So after all the worry, we were told to give him Benadryl, like we had been doing, every 6 hours. Oh, the joys of parenthood! :)
Here are some pictures of Braxton on day 2 of the hives. Doesn't he look so pitiful! Crazy thing is, he didn't complain or act like he was uncomfortable. We are happy to say that after 4 days, he only has a few spots remaining....Hooray!
